Title: wirelss wake-on-lan
Post by: rswan on May 27, 2010, 11:46:04 AM
Hi All;

Wireless wake-on-lan works within the first 2 minutes or so of when I put my computer (Mac Mini) to sleep. After that it no longer works. I thought maybe the auto wireless channel selection was the problem, but doesn't seem to make a difference. Anyone have any idea why wireless wake on lan would stop working after a delay?

Thanks,
Robert

OK so after more searching I'm pretty sure the router drops the mac mini from the ARP table a couple of minutes after it goes to sleep. Does anyone know any tricks to permanently keep a wireless device in the ARP table of the DIR-601?

Posting to myself again :) a little more debug and I see that the threshold where wireless wake-on-lan no longer works is marked by router log messages of the sort:

Jun 26 22:24:33    ath0: STA 00:df:df:df:df:3f IEEE 802.11: disassoc
iated
Jun 26 22:24:33    ath0: STA 00:df:df:df:df:3f IEEE 802.11: deauthen
ticated due to local deauth request

This happens while the computer with the wireless interface is asleep, so I'm sure the DIR-601 has decided to take action on its own. Does anyone know what the deauthenticated and/or disassociation messages mean, and if there's a way to prevent it from happening?
