DNS-320 & WD20EARS
« on: April 28, 2011, 02:24:55 PM »

Hi there,

I just bought myself a DNS-320 and two WD20EARS and want to share my experience with this combination so far...

DNS-320
Hardware Ver.: A1
Firmware Ver.: 2.0

2x WD Green 2TB (WD20EARS) in "Standard" configuration (not RAID, not JBOD)

Purpose:
1x HDD "Volume_1" for backup
1x HDD "Volume_2" for media files for my WD TV Live

Problem#1
After upgrading the firmware from V1 to V2 the webinterface was slow, crashed often and there were a lot of nasty looking display errors.

Workaround#1
I downloaded the firmware V2 from D-Link's website of Germany and obviously something's wrong with it. I replaced it again with the V2 from the D-Link US-website and it works great eversince. Still I had some display errors with IE9 - also in compatibility mode. But using Firefox 3.6.13 everything works great!

Problem#2
When both HDDs are inserted into the NAS. I couldn't format any of them. The process stays on 0% and doesn't continue.

Workaround#2
Formatting is working when inserting only one HDD at a time into the NAS. After both HDDs were formated I inserted both of them and it was working.

So, after these first three hours of installing. Let's see how it continues.

Cheers, Florian
